Project Engineer

Established in 1964, we have built up an excellent reputation over 50 years as one of the leading pressure vessel and process plant equipment manufacturers in the UK. We have two manufacturing facilities in Heywood, Greater Manchester where we employ 39 full time members of staff.

An exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer has arisen within the sales team here at Gilwood. The role will predominantly be office based and will involve identifying new business opportunities, building long-term customer relationships and providing pre-sales and after-sales technical support.

We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer who can use their project management experience and engineering knowledge to manage projects, provide technical assistance and deliver projects from bespoke customer specifications and technical drawings. This is a key role within the business to ensure strong customer relationships and continued business growth.

Your role will involve;

  • Project management of orders to ensure jobs are on-time and budget.
  • Managing customer relationships from technical sales handover through to product delivery.
  • Providing technical assistance and developing innovative customer solutions.
  • Preparing 3D CAD and profile drawings to customer specifications as required.
  • Negotiating and purchasing materials from suppliers.
  • Liaising with members of the sales team and other departments including, engineers, team leaders, managers and directors.

As and when required;

  • Preparing quotations from bespoke customer specifications and technical drawings.
  • Negotiating sales by agreeing terms and conditions to satisfy customer’s needs in terms of quality, price and delivery.

In your career to date, you will have gained sound knowledge & experience in;

  • Working within a ISO 9001 quality management system.
  • Welding, fabrication and machining techniques.
  • Pressure vessel codes and standards (ASME, NORSOK, DNV, NACE, etc.)

Key Skills & Experience;

  • Project management, planning and organisation.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems.
  • Competent with up-to-date computer applications including word, excel, AutoCAD and Solid Edge.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, both written and verbal.
  • Influences others by outlining the benefit of ideas in a persuasive and enthusiastic manner.
  • Builds rapport with customers, improves and sustains customer relationships.
  • Understands supplier, customer markets and competitors to deliver business results.

Required Qualifications/experience;

  • Degree qualified, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5 year’s practical industrial experience (post graduate scheme or equivalent) in a relevant industry.
  • Experience in project management, preferably in the pressure vessel manufacturing sector.

Machinist
Heywood, Greater Manchester based

  • £13.26 p/hr (depending on experience) weekly pay
  • 37hrs per week: 8:00 to 4:30pm Monday – Thursday, 08:00 to 13:00 Friday
  • Overtime available

An exciting opportunity for a Machinist has arisen within the machine shop here at Gilwood due to a constantly busy order book - the company now require additional skilled labour to help cope with the ongoing work load.

We are looking for a Skilled Manual / Conventional Machinist to work as part of a small team – we are searching for a capable engineer who has experience in either a breakdown / production environment who is capable of working unsupervised while producing quality work.

The team is friendly, and the environment is relaxed yet busy with new challenges daily keeping the role interesting and varied.

Your role will involve;

  • Manual Machining – Turning, Boring (horizontal / vertical), Milling.
  • Producing parts and components from engineering drawings
  • Machining to tolerances.

Key Skills & Experience;

  • Setting and Operating Manual / Conventional machines with DRO.
  • Experience and knowledge of manual machining equipment and processes - Turning, Boring, Milling - ideally experienced with all three.
  • Knowledge of machined materials (high alloys, stainless steel, titanium, aluminium, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and the ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Personal drive for results and improvements, a willingness to change and implement new ideas / concepts.
  • Able to use a variety of Measuring / Inspection equipment / tools.

Required Qualifications/experience;

  • Time served fully skilled machinist.
  • 5 year’s post apprenticeship practical industrial experience in a heavy engineering environment.

Required Qualifications/experience

  • 4 GCSEs at Grade C or equivalent, including Mathematics, English and a Science.

Gilwoods supplied BOC with two ASME U-Stamped/CE Marked Vessel Assemblies comprising of four 8" diameter manifolded vessels.  The completed assemblies were air freighted to our system manufacture in Massachusetts USA for integration into our Fluorine Gas Generation Enclosures.  All our requirements for accurate assembly integration, fabrication quality and lead times were achieved, resulting in a successful project completion for our French customer
